5 Life Skills School Never Taught Us
School taught us how to memorise, repeat, and pass.
But no one really taught us how to:
deal with disappointment
manage anxiety
choose ourselves
or navigate adulthood
You’re expected to “know” these things.
And when you don’t, it can feel like you’re failing at life.
Here are five skills many of us are learning in real time:
1. Emotional awareness
No one taught us how to name our feelings, only how to suppress them. Learning to understand your emotions is the first step to managing them.
2. Boundaries
Saying yes when you mean no leads to burnout. Boundaries protect your energy, not your ego.
3. Self-comparison awareness
Scrolling through highlights makes it easy to feel behind. But you’re comparing your behind-the-scenes to someone else’s curated moment.
4. Self-talk
The way you speak to yourself becomes the way you live. Gentle doesn’t mean weak. Kind doesn’t mean lazy.
5. Direction without certainty
You don’t need all the answers to move forward, just enough self-trust to take the next step.
Medulla exists because these skills matter.
And you shouldn’t have to figure them out alone.
